Helpful Tips And Tricks To Keep In Mind While Running

Nutrition, What To Wear, What Not To Run On!

Hey guys, so I found this really helpful video on running!  As I said before, I’m going to be running a 5K in April, but I’m a baby runner so I’m still finding things that work for me so I can cross that finish line upright instead of collapsing.  A few things in this video I already knew, because the tip about drinking water all throughout the day is something everyone should be doing anyways, but I figured this video would be a nice starting point in our running themed video posts.

The main tip that I found very interesting about this video was that you shouldn’t wear cotton when running, because cotton chafes.  Instead, look for synthetic blends that breathe easy.  I just bought a shirt that’s “dry-wick”, so we’ll see how that works.  Something to really keep in mind is that even if I’m ‘re freezing when I get up to go running, I’m only wearing a light jacket over my shirt, and some capris because once you start moving, you start sweating.  I made the mistake of wearing long sweat pants and a heavy jacket the other day and I was dying at the end of my run.

Try to stay off of concrete because it’s very unforgiving on your joint, instead look for grass or asphalt which will help soften the impact on your feet.  Speaking of feet, make sure you’re wearing the proper shoes or you could end up with some serious injuries with your knees and your back.

I didn’t know that the cramps that runners get can be caused by your liver moving, but I know that if I eat a banana before and after I run, my cramps tend to be less because the potassium helps with any cramps you make experience!  But don’t eat too soon before a run, you could make yourself sick.

Next time I’ll talk about running techniques to have proper form for running, but in the mean time, share your fitness goals below, and tell me your goal that you want to reach for by running!
